GFARM2 and Legacy NFT Migration Period

Summary

This proposal recommends a final 12-month migration and redemption period for:

  • GFARM2

  • legacy Gains Network NFTs

  • related obsolete migration, bridge, swap, and redemption systems

After the deadline, Gains Network would permanently close official migration and redemption, remove the related interfaces and documentation, and mark the remaining contracts and assets as unsupported.

The goal is to complete the transition to the current GNS ecosystem and support the current team’s work to improve the product, simplify the user experience, and clean up legacy infrastructure.

Motivation

GFARM2 was replaced by GNS in 2021, while legacy NFTs were later bridged and made redeemable for GNS.

These systems have remained available to protect holders, but maintaining them indefinitely creates:

  • additional legacy contracts and infrastructure

  • user confusion about which assets remain active

  • phishing and fake migration risks

  • continuing documentation and support costs

  • uncertainty around outstanding GNS claims

  • unnecessary complexity for the current product

A final, well-publicized migration period would give holders sufficient time to act while allowing Gains Network to retire obsolete systems.

Proposal

Governance should approve:

  1. A final 12-month period for GFARM2 migration and legacy NFT redemption

  2. A public inventory of:

    • remaining GFARM2

    • eligible NFT classes

    • affected contracts and interfaces

  3. Repeated communication of the deadline through the app, documentation, forum, Discord, Telegram, and official social channels.

  4. At the end of the period:

    • close GFARM2-to-GNS migration

    • close legacy NFT bridging and redemption

    • remove the related product interfaces

    • remove active migration instructions

    • disable or neutralize obsolete contracts where technically possible

    • mark immutable contracts and assets as historical and unsupported

  5. A final report showing:

    • GFARM2 migrated

    • NFTs redeemed

    • remaining balances

    • remaining theoretical GNS exposure

  6. Any decision concerning unused, recoverable, or reserved GNS should require a separate governance vote.

Important Considerations

The original GFARM2 migration was presented as having no end date. This proposal therefore changes an earlier commitment.

To treat holders fairly:

  • the final period should last 12 months

  • it should begin only when all migration and redemption interfaces are confirmed operational

  • the deadline should be communicated repeatedly

  • migration ratios and NFT redemption values should not change during the period

  • outages should result in an appropriate extension

Historical GFARM2 and NFTs cannot necessarily be removed from the blockchain. The sunset would end official support, migration, redemption, and protocol recognition.

Benefits

This proposal would:

  • simplify the Gains Network ecosystem

  • reduce legacy technical surface

  • reduce user confusion and phishing risk

  • clarify that GNS is the active ecosystem token

  • reduce long-term support and documentation costs

  • support the current team’s effort to modernize and clean up the product

  • establish a clear endpoint for outstanding GFARM2 and NFT claims.

Proposed Vote

  1. Approve a 12-month final migration and redemption period followed by sunset.

  2. Approve with a different migration period.

  3. Request more analysis before setting a deadline.

  4. Maintain the current systems indefinitely.

  5. Abstain.
